I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy some of Cornwall’s most luxurious spas over the years, and whilst I’d love to say that I have a favourite, having tried and tested many-first hand, I find this task impossible. Which is why I’ve picked out a few of what I believe are the best spas in Cornwall.
Why Cornwall Is Perfect for Spa Lovers
Cornwall is a place where the natural elements are embraced, and wellbeing is part of everyday life. Whether it’s using natural salts and seaweeds from the Cornish ocean as part of the spa experience, or simply breathing in the fresh coastal air on a winter’s day, Cornwall offers wellness in every form.

The spa experience in Cornwall starts simply with your surroundings. To be honest, sometimes I get all of the calmness a spa brings to my soul, just by standing on my favourite south coast beach at night, listening to the waves and looking up at the stars.
The reason why Cornwall is perfect for spa lovers is for this reason alone. The experience of being in Cornwall is akin to that of a spa experience, and the way the two work together in harmony makes it a perfect place to have a spa break and relax completely.
My Tried & Tested Criteria
I’ve tried quite a few spas in Cornwall and believe the following criteria determines what makes a good spa break or luxury wellness retreat in the hope it can give you some guidance when it comes to choosing your own:
- Best for: Choosing the perfect spa depends hugely on the who, what and why of the experience. This aims to give you a brief intel on who each spa is perfect for.
- USPs: The unique selling point or points of the spa – its ‘pièce de résistance’ and a must see or do if you visit.
- Setting: This will include the internal spaces, the view, its location in Cornwall itself and the surrounding areas. Plus, anything else you could do whilst you’re in the area.

- Top tip: My experience of the spa and the surrounding area: I will definitely be reflecting on my first-hand experience and anything else worth noting too.
Scarlet Hotel, Mawgan Porth
Best for: Couples looking for the ultimate luxury
USPs: A luxury eco experience at an adults only hotel
Setting: Hands down, one of the best spa settings in Cornwall. Located on a clifftop on the north coast, you can enjoy views of the Atlantic ocean, whilst soaking in the hot tub, chilling out in their relaxation room or swimming in the outdoor pool amongst the reeds.
Price: Spa days start from £1701
Top tip: Try their breakfast, pre-spa day. It really feels like it is the most important meal of the day, with the level of preparation that goes into their locally sourced menu and food options. I’d suggest it is worthwhile to tag this onto the day if you’ve got time.

Bedruthan Hotel & Spa, Newquay
Best for: Families, and those looking for a more casual coastal spa experience.
USPs: Its sensory garden experience, with a seven step process to total relaxation.2
Setting: Again, another Cornwall hotel with a wonderful spa experience available to guests and visitors. The setting is similar to the Scarlet Hotel, just above Mawgan Porth beach. The main difference is the ‘easy-going’ vibe here. It is a family friendly hotel, making it great for a break with the kids, where one of you can sneak off to have a little pamper time.
Price: Spa days start from £85 but you can choose a shorter experience for less
Top tip: Try the sensory spa garden. I actually experienced the Bedruthan Spa with work colleagues, so given the nature of the gathering, everyone involved was a little tentative at first. However, the seven ‘stations,’ each with a unique experience, make it a lovely alternative alternative way to enjoy a spa experience in Cornwall. The indoor swimming pool is also lovely if you have time to take a dip too.

Fistral Beach Hotel, Newquay
Best for: Couples looking for a romantic spa experience
USPs: Focusing fully on wellbeing from the moment you enter the spa hotel
Setting: Located on the quieter end of Fistral beach, away from the café, restaurant and shop complex, this instantly gives Fistral Beach Hotel top marks on the relaxation scale. The sea views are fantastic, with the huge expanse of Fistral beach in front of you. The spa offers different themed experiences, focusing on types of energy, such as ‘rejuvenate’, a day of calming treatments along with the use of their spa facilities.
Price: Spa days start at £150, but you can choose to book a half day, which is cheaper3
Top tip: So, full disclosure, I have not been to Fistral Beach Hotel for a long time, but I had to include it in the summary as I have heard so many good things about it from friends who live locally. I also believe it is one of the best spas in Cornwall due to its location. The freshness of the sea air and the impressiveness of the Atlantic Ocean here is like nowhere else in Cornwall.

St Michael’s Resort, Falmouth
Best for: A good all-rounder with a great choice of spa experiences
USPs: It offers a variety of treatments and spa facilities
Setting: Being on the south coast of Cornwall, the setting is much gentler, with the hotel’s Mediterranean-style gardens out in front of you and the sea just beyond. The great thing about St Michaels is the number of treatment rooms, and treatments available, all using Elemis products – true luxury.
Price: The signature spa day is £160 but you can choose evening experiences which are less4
Top tip: I have frequented this spa a few times now. Partly because it is close to where I live, but also because of the idyllic setting. I’d suggest to those visiting the spa to eat lunch in the Nourish Kitchen. The food is healthy and delicious; perfect if your spa experience is a bit of a detox session.
The other reason this St Michael’s is included in the best spas list is because of its ‘Mum to be’ spa experience. Often you cannot take part in spa days when you’re pregnant, even though it is a time when you need pampering the most! St Michael’s has recognised this and tailored a spa experience for those who are soon to be Mums so they can sit back, relax and rest.

Carbis Bay and Spa Hotel, St Ives
Best for: Those looking for uber-luxury
USPs: Its infinity pool and luxurious treatments
Setting: This award-winning spa has it all; luxurious facilities, sea views, infinity pool & one of Cornwall’s best locations, being just above Carbis Bay beach, next to the iconic town of St Ives. This really is hard to top. The spa facilities include an outdoor heated pool, a yoga room, a hydro pool and a sauna. The spa treatments use only the best products, making the overall experience a totally blissful one.
Price: £260 for a full day with other options available for shorter periods or treatments
Top tip: My top tip for Carbis Bay? Fully indulge. Lean into a day of total luxury in one of the world’s most incredible locations. The St Ives ‘light’ is famous, making the sea views look tropical and the spa itself boasts one of the best locations to enjoy it. Particularly when you have an infinity pool to enjoy the views from.

Boscundle Manor, St Austell
Best for: Those looking for a spa with a more boutique manor-house style setting
USPs: Its utterly charming ambience
Setting: Its boutique feel and charming vibe make it a perfect place to go with a loved one, for a romantic spa weekend getaway. It is a nice alternative to the bigger spas on the coast if you’d prefer something a little more tucked away. They have a great choice of treatments and being part of a hotel means that you can also enjoy a weekend here, making the most of their indoor pool, the two acres of private gardens too.
Price: Spa days start from £70 per person
Top tip: If you can, try and explore St Austell and the surrounding area whilst you’re here. Charlestown, for example, is a very pretty harbour village and perfect for an afternoon of ambling. Alternatively, the iconic Eden Project is not far away either, with plenty to see and do here year-round.5

The Hidden Gem Spa That Locals Love
Mullion Cove Hotel, The Lizard
This spa is a fantastic hidden gem, perched within one of the most dramatic settings in Cornwall. This makes the best spas in Cornwall list because of its serene ambience and its incredible setting.
They have an indoor hydrotherapy pool, outdoor pool, steam room and sauna to choose from. Plus, they also offer treatments. On top of that, if you’re wanting to make a weekend of it, the hotel has beautiful rooms with sea views as well as self-catering apartments in the cove itself and on the cliffs near the spa.6

How to Choose the Right Spa for You
It is such a wonderful dilemma to have, choosing what Cornish spa day you’d like to do. Particularly when there are so many great options. If it were me and I were trying to decide? I think location would be high up the list of priorities. If you’re looking for awe-inspiring surroundings, go big with a north coast spa. However, if you’re looking for a more intimate vibe, go a little more boutique.
Budget is up next as a key consideration when choosing your spa experience in Cornwall, but the great thing is that there is the full range of prices, depending on your budget.
Finally, what epitomizes the best spa experience to you is important. Is it about the treatments or facilities? It is about what else you can do in the area? Or is it that you’d love to pair it with a lovely meal or afternoon tea?
Choosing the right spa is really personal, and individual preferences play a huge part. Whilst I can recommend my tried and tested spas in Cornwall and come up with a best spa list, Ultimately, it all comes down to the ingredients that make you feel most rejuvenated.

There is no best time of year to visit a spa in Cornwall. In winter, the extreme contrast of the outside versus inside is pretty special. Whereas in summer, you have the light, and bright colours along with delicious fresh light summer foods and drinks.

Travel tips:
All of the spas featured in the list are easy to access by car. The spas with the best public transport links are Carbis Bay Spa and St Michael’s Resort. Both are near local train services.

It is well worth looking up nearby beaches and attractions if you’re looking to make a full trip or weekend away for your spa experience in Cornwall. You are never far from the beach in Cornwall, with many spas listed actually overlooking some of Cornwall’s best beaches. There are also a number of attractions all over the county that are worth checking out, but we do advise you check their opening times as they vary throughout the year.

Well, there you have it. My lowdown of what I’d class the best spas in Cornwall, and why. My final piece of advice is to not overthink it. Go with your gut feeling on the place you feel will bring you most solace, and go there. If you’re anything like me, it will only make you fall in love with this beautiful county more.
